History
Golf was first played at Chapel Lane in 1935 under the Calthorpe Golf Club banner. At the time, the course was rudimentary and consisted of a succession of fields. The game continued in this manner until 1960; in 1961, the Great Barr Golf club Ltd was born and improved the facilities on the course. In 1972, the famous architect Hawtree was commissioned to redesign the course, and in 1975 improvements were made to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 18th holes as well as the practice ground. The course was further improved in 1980 when architect Hamilton-Stutt was hired. However, it was not until 1983 that the current layout of the course was finalized. In 1996, renowned international golf course architect Donald Steel was commissioned to come up with proposals for each hole. These proposals included bunkers, tree planting, ponds and ditches. A ten-year plan was drawn up and work was completed in 2006.
Prices
Green Fees are £25 on weekdays in winter, and £30 on weekend afternoons. The amount of Green Fees is set at £50 on weekdays in summer, and £60 on weekend afternoons.
