It was in 1857 that the Burt and Packard Shoe Company was established in Brockton, Massachusetts, to later become the Field and Flint Company. Very quickly the brand was spotted by golf professionals and it became the official shoe of the American Ryder Cup team led by captain Walter Hagen.

From 1945, Footjoy became the most present brand on the American PGA Tour circuit and it will remain so until today. It will still be necessary to wait for the 80s for the company to definitively take the current name Footjoy.

The history of the brand
Ping Golf was founded by Karsten Solheim. It was in the early 60s, following an engineering career with General Electric, that he began making putters in his garage in Redwood City, California. In 1967, he left his job at General Electric to develop the PING company.
A legendary putter
The General Electric engineer invented a new putter called "PING 1A" in his garage. Instead of fixing the club handle on the heel of the blade, he fixed it in the center.
