Location and setting
The Shifnal Golf Club is nestled in the countryside of the county of Shropshire, and has a quaint charm that appeals to all its visitors. Easily accessible, the Shifnal is on the outskirts of the village of the same name, not far from Wolverhampton. The club is located near the town of Shifnal and is easily accessible due to its proximity to the M54.
Career
The Shifnal course is a perfect example of park-like terrain, and is one of the finest and most entertaining courses in the county.
We owe the layout of the course to Frank Pennick, in the 60s; Since its conception, the course has not ceased to mature and its natural characteristics are remarkable. The Shifnal's 18 holes are spread over 6468 yards, and for some they are fine tests of ability for golfers, even with a small handicap.
History
The Shifnal Golf Club already existed in 1913, although we do not know its exact date of foundation; we have nevertheless found traces of general assemblies in 1929. We also know that at the time, the course of the club consisted of a 9 hole located on a rental ground. It was in 1963 that the design of an 18-hole course by Frank Pennick of golf course architect firm TC Cotton and Partners was approved. In 66 the course opened to the public, but its greens had many problems and the club eventually had to overhaul the 18 greens in 1982. Since then the course has not seen any major changes.
Prices
Green Fees are £45 weekdays and £50 weekends.
Duration:
The club opens its doors from 8 a.m. to 19 p.m. but is only accessible to visitors from noon on weekdays, and from 14 p.m. on weekends.
