Location and setting
Situated to the south west of Cheltenham, Gloucester Golf Club is easily accessible from Bristol via the M5. Its course strewn with natural obstacles delights local players and visitors passing through the region.
Career
The course features fantastic streams and small ponds which have been integrated into the landscape, with mature trees and wooded areas left as nature intended. This gives the course a natural beauty, and its golfers some natural hazards! The first 10 holes will have you negotiating the lower slopes, with streams running parallel and across the fairways. Enjoy the 11th, which is a challenging uphill par 3, before tackling the scenic holes overlooking Gloucester and the stunning surrounding countryside. In 2006, the course was lengthened to 5 meters by transforming the 969th and 13th holes into par 14, which is the case today. The signature hole is the 5th big finish hole, thanks to the fantastic view that awaits the player on this 18 meter drop, and in the summer months there is a drivable green for all as the slopes bring the ball to the front of the green.
History
Although the current club was founded in 1976 by Mr G Lewis after it was acquired the previous year, there are traces of an earlier club dating back to the 1890s. It is known to have been called by another name qu They changed in 1904 to adopt the surname he uses until now, that it was a 9-hole course located around Barnwood and that it was moved to Brockworth for unexplained reasons. The current club is therefore much more recent, but benefits from the reputation of its illustrious predecessor, which is rare for such a young club. The course is also part of the reasons for this plebiscite, envisaged by Mr. Barry Peacey, the owner at the time, because it highlights the slopes of Robinswood Hill, but also the natural obstacles so as not to uproot the wild beauty that make all the salt of this discovery.
Prices
Green Fees are £14 on weekdays for the 9 hole course and £20 for the 18 hole course. On weekends, rates are £18 for the 9 hole and £25 for the 18th hole. The summer rates have not yet reached us.
