Location and setting

The Frinton Golf Club is renowned for the quality of its golf courses and its friendly welcome to visitors. Built in 1895, Frinton Clubhouse is among the oldest golf clubs built in England. Its location by the sea allows it to offer breathtaking landscapes to its visitors and members.

Career

The Frinton courses are excellent challenges for golfers. The Havers in particular is a rather short (6 yard) seaside course whose open, treeless fairways may seem unchallenging, but in reality this is not the case. Fast, firm and undulating greens put the best putters to the test. The tidal ditches cross many fairways and demand well-placed shots. The hallmark of golf courses, the ever-changing sea breeze, demands careful club selection on every hole.

History

Frinton Golf Club was founded in 1895. Originally based on a nine-hole course designed by Tom Dunn, on land now occupied by houses on Second and Third Avenue. In 1904, two-time Open champion Willie Park Junior designed a new 18-hole course on the current site, an area once famous for hare hunting. On the advice of renowned golf course architect Harry Colt, various improvements were made to the original design, leaving the course as we know it today.

In its recent history, Frinton has been at the forefront of change being one of the first to embrace full gender equality among its members, as well as being the first golf club in Essex to Obtain England Golf's prestigious Golf Mark award - demonstrating that Frinton Golf Club is indeed fit for purpose and a club for all ages!
