Sant Cugat is the closest golf course to Barcelona, just 15 minutes from the northern part of the city and very close to the main highways. Sant Cugat train station is just a 5-minute walk from the Clubhouse.
Sant Cugat Golf Club was founded in 1914 by Barcelona Traction & Light Power; who built the railway that still connects the city to Plaza Catalunya and downtown Barcelona today, it takes 25 minutes.
In the early years, its name was "New Barcelona Golf Club". The club is steeped in history, Seve Ballesteros made his professional debut there in March 1974, in 1979 Jose Maria Olazabal won his first Spanish junior championship and in 1997 when Sergio Garcia won the Catalonia Open while 'he was still an amateur.
Sant Cugat Golf Club organized the Open Peugeot Alps Tour in 2011 (Chris Paisley) and 2012 (Pablo Larrazabal). In this final edition, a new page in its history has been written with the debut in a professional tournament of Javier Ballesteros, on the same course that his father had done 38 years ago.
The Golf de Sant Cugat has hosted the Spanish Open, European Tour, Ladies European Tour and Banesto Tour tournaments. Among the members are great professional players like Paula Martí, Txomin Hospital, Ivo Giner, Nacho Feliu, Fernando Roca and the current member of the European Tour Agus Domingo.
The holes are not particularly long but precision is essential depending on the position of the flags because the greens are well protected by trapping bunkers. The quality of the greens is excellent and they are held in high regard by professional players. It is not uncommon to find them with a score above 11 in the "Stimpmeter" speed test.
