The TAG Heuer “Connected Modular Golf Edition” GPS golf golfer's wrist watch

TAG Heuer "Connected Modular Golf Edition"

Apart from their design, high-end connected watches offer the same functions: telephone, reception of messages, alarm, diary, fitness, etc. The TAG Heuer "Connected Modular Golf Edition" is no exception to the rule but, as its name suggests, it offers an application intended for golfers..

As we know, to judge the performance of a GPS golf watch, nothing beats a test in real conditions. And this for two major reasons: the comfort and the precision of the information. Once worn on the wrist, this TAG Heuer is very light considering its generous diameter of 45 mm. A good surprise allowed by the marriage of titanium and ceramic for the case, because beyond being extremely resistant to shocks and scratches, it allows you to wear a watch that does not interfere with the swing. Another advantage of this combination, the qualitative aspect of the object compared to the plastic models that are usually found on the wrists of golfers.

To use it in a game, you will obviously need to install the application on your smartphone. TAG Heuer golf (Google Play or App Store) and pair the watch. An operation that only takes a few moments. Note that this reference is compatible with Android (4.4 and above) and IOS (minimum 9.3) systems. For our test, an iPhone in IOS 12.2 was used.

Before planting the tee at the start of hole 1, you will need to download the map of the course you are going to play. And whether you're deep in the Malaysian rainforest, in the Florida Keys, or right near your home, no problem, as some 39 routes are available through the app. In other words, almost all the golf courses in the world! Note that the operation only takes a few seconds with a WiFi or 000G connection.

A digital journey log on the wrist

The 3D maps of each hole, visible on the phone, give a very precise perspective and vision of the environment. An ideal function to properly prepare a game by spotting, in advance, the traps imagined by the golf course architect. When approaching the course, choose the watch as the GPS indicator. Even though it consumes a little more power, the precision is improved.

In use, the handling of the touch screen is very intuitive and allows you to know the distance to the green but also that of obstacles or that of your drive since the start or your last shot. The watch obviously goes automatically from one hole to another, when you go from the green to the next tee.

All the information collected during the game is transmitted to the application which, after each course, calculates the statistics and memorizes your progress. Suddenly, the watch that serves as a caddy on the course turns into a coach at home. The system can also serve as a scorecard for 4 players (in match play, stroke play, stableford, gross or net). Your result (par, birdie, bogey…) being visible on the watch thanks to the lines of different colors which are displayed under the numbers of the holes engraved on the bezel for this purpose.

Like laser binoculars, more and more players are using GPS watches to estimate distances rather than finding their bearings using the traditional stake on the course. The TAG Heuer is doing well because it is, in addition, a real Swiss watch, elegant and connected, that we can wear every day. Until the next part ...
