US Open returns to Pebble Beach

US Open returns to Pebble Beach

The US Open returns to Pebble Beach for the first time since 2010 and for the sixth time in the history of the national championship, having already hosted the Open in 1972, 1982, 1992 and 2000. The sumptuous and ruthless course of the Monterey Peninsula is one of eight courses to host five or more US Open, and it will also become one of three venues (joining Oakmont and Baltusrol to host seven or more when the USGA returns in 2027.

As always, this tournament will be one of the most difficult of all professional golf events. Perhaps the most widely considered scenario will be whether Brooks Koepka can win the championship for a third year in a row. Only one other golfer, Willie Anderson in 1903-1905, has ever accomplished this feat. (Ben Hogan won three straight victories in three consecutive championships he competed in, in 1948, 1950 and 1951, after missing the 1949 Open due to injuries from the famous car crash that nearly ended his career. .) If Koepka were to win the title for the third time, he would be the seventh player to win it so many times, joining legendary golfers such as Anderson, Bobby Jones, Hogan and Jack Nicklaus (four wins each) and Hale Irwin and Tiger Woods (three wins).
