The French Golf Federation, created in 1912, has the mission of organizing, controlling and developing the practice of golf in France. With more than 400 licensees today, it is the 000th largest French sports federation.

Organization of the FFG

To implement its public service delegation missions, the French Golf Federation is administered by a Management Committee, made up of 32 members elected for a period of four years, and eligible for re-election. The Management Committee appoints the President, and validates on the President's proposal, a Bureau comprising a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer and a Secretary General, in total 10 members and two permanent guests. The Steering Committee establishes the Commissions.

Volunteer committed for many years in the world of golf, Jean-Lou Charon, the only one to present a list, was re-elected at the head of the French Golf Federation. Its list received 3949 votes or 92.98% of the votes cast.

History of ffgolf

Founded in 1912 under the name of Union des golfs de France, the French Golf Federation is a 1901 law association declared of public utility on April 9, 1975 and approved by the Ministry of Sports. Some major dates that have marked the history of ffgolf.

During the XXth Century
  • 1912: Creation of the Union des golfs de France
  • 1924: The Duke of Mouchy becomes president of the Union des Golfs de France.
  • 1933: On January 13, the Union des Golfs de France becomes the French Golf Federation.
  • 1941: André Marino Vagliano becomes president of the Federation.
  • 1943: Guy Delamare-Deboutteville is elected president of the Federation.
  • 1945: The Duke of Mouchy becomes president of the Federation again.
  • 1946: Guy Delamare-Deboutteville becomes president of the Federation again.
  • 1950: The Federation lists 44 courses and 4 license holders.
  • 1951: Jacques Léglise is elected president of the Federation and will remain so until 1967.
  • 1960: The Federation lists 79 courses and 11 license holders.
  • 1967: Roland Raffard is elected president of the Federation.
  • 1970: Pierre-Étienne Guyot is elected president of the Federation.
  • 1970: The Federation counts 20 licensees.
  • 1972: Creation of the first small structure, the Grenouillère golf course
  • 1980: Implementation of computerized license management.
  • 1980: The Federation counts 38 licensees.
  • 1980: La Poste issues a commemorative stamp of the French Golf Federation.
  • 1981: Claude-Roger Cartier becomes president of the Federation.
  • 1981: The few existing regional delegations become the first Leagues.
  • 1981: Creation of the arbitration school of the French Golf Federation.
  • 1987: The Federation reaches the mark of 100 licensees.
  • 1989: Corporate golf is officially represented on the Federation's Steering Committee.
  • 1990: Creation of the Green Card.
  • 1990: October 5, Greg Normann inaugurates the Golf National
  • 1990: The Federation counts 181 licensees.
  • 1991: For the first time, the French Open takes place at the Golf National.
  • 1993: Creation of GFGA, French Association of Golfs Associatifs.
  • 1994: The Federation decides to proceed with the calibration of all French terrains.
  • 1995: The Federation sets up the license number for life.
  • 1996: Centralized management of handicaps.
  • 1997: Philippe Martin succeeds Claude-Roger Cartier as President of the Federation.
  • 1997: Attachment of Handigolf to the French Golf Federation.
  • 1997: Opening of the Federation's first website.
  • 1999: Creation of the concept of “Compact Urban Golfs”.
  • 1999: Creation of the first departmental committees
During the XNUMXst Century
  • 2000: The first Compact Urban Golf opens its doors in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône.
  • 2000: The Federation has nearly 300 licensees.
  • 2000: Creation of “Tous au golf”, a free discovery operation.
  • 2002: Creation of the first high-level federal pole in Montpellier.
  • 2002: Le Golf National becomes permanent site of the French Open.
  • 2002: The Federation entrusts the organization of the French Open to ASO.
  • 2005: Georges Barbaret succeeds Philippe Martin as President of the Federation.
  • 2006: Signature of the first charter on water.
  • 2006: Creation of the Écoumène Golf & Environment Institute.
  • 2006: Centenary of the French Open.
  • 2008: Inauguration of the Federal Technical Center of the National Golf.
  • 2009: First “golf and biodiversity” inventory with the Natural History Museum.
  • 2009: The IOC validates the return of golf to the Olympic Games for 2016.
  • 2009: The Federation establishes the 9-hole competitions.
  • 2010: The Federation sets up its post-baccalaureate system in an American university.
  • 2010: Implementation of the “100 small structures” plan of the ffgolf.
  • 2010: Signature of the new Golf and Environment charter.
  • 2011: The Federation counts 418 licensees.
  • 2011: On May 17, France is named host country for the 2018 Ryder Cup which will be played at National Golf.
  • 2011: Golf is the sixth French sport in terms of licensees.
  • 2016: Golf becomes an Olympic sport again during the Rio Games.
  • 2017: The French Open becomes the HNA Open de France and integrates the Rolex Series.
  • 2018: The Ryder Cup is played at the Golf National.
  • 2019: 418 licensees
  • 2020: The ffgolf strengthens its commitment to ecological transition with the creation of the FFGREEN endowment fund
  • 2020: Pascal Grizot succeeds Jean-Lou Charon
  • 2022: France will host the World Amateur Team Championships at Golf National and Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche
  • 2024: The Golf National will be the Olympic site for the golf events of the Paris 2024 Olympics
Leagues and departmental committees

The organization of golf in France is part of that of the national sports movement. Pyramidal type, it structures the clubs, departmental committees and leagues within the ffgolf.

The 19 Leagues and their 84 Departmental Committees represent the Federation throughout the country. They are in charge of implementing the strategy that they have helped to define, the corresponding action plans and the proper use of the means to achieve them. Responsible for sports animation, they design and carry out actions whose objectives are shared by the clubs.
