American architect Kyle Phillips, famous for his work at "Dundonald and Kingsbarns", is responsible for the design of the two courses at the Verdura Resort in Sicily. English hotelier Rocco Forte has built one of his luxury resorts here on a splendid coastal site that has drawn comparisons to Gleneagles and Pebble Beach. Indeed, sometimes you could confuse the setting with Scotland, the Mediterranean Sea, softer, replacing the North Sea, more windy. Phillips' approach has therefore been to let the natural beauty of the surroundings influence the development plan. This tropical setting includes an outdoor swimming pool and private beach, a spa and a first-class hotel with over two hundred rooms.
The rolling East Course offers a truly memorable round of golf. Some early highlights include the short par 4 (hole 3) and the first holes with water hazards at 5 and 6, each with stunning views. From the 13th hole, the course turns towards the sea, plunging and crossing like a magnificent links. The best is saved for last, the penultimate hole gently rising at the foot of a Sicilian hill. The 18 is a fabulous par four with an elevated start along the steep coast. 18-hole course - Par 72 of 6593 meters
Like the East Course, the West Course is a memorable links. Very scenic on the last few holes along the sea. Kyle Philips signs here a very interesting up to date course between olive trees, orange trees, Sicilian countryside and seaside.
18-hole course - Par 72 of 6692 meters. Alternating East and West will make you a lover of the links. It's up to you to score on the last 4 holes, a task made difficult by the beauty of the landscape. Stay focused!
