Founded in 1869, the Royal Liverpool, also known as Hoylake, is the second oldest links course in England. Located 16 miles from Liverpool, it is quite a challenge.
The Royal Liverpool has marked the history of French golf. It is indeed on this links that Arnaud Massy triumphed in 1907. The only victory to date in Major for a French player. ?? Housed on the former Liverpool Hunt Club racecourse, it was used for both horse racing and the small white ball for the first seven years of its existence. Then golf definitely imposed itself. Surrounded by houses and quite flat, the Royal Liverpool is probably not the most attractive links that exists at first glance. But is that just an impression ??.
If the holes at the beginning and at the end of the course are quite flat, the dunes near the sea create sacred relief in the middle of the course. Like all great links, Hoylake is quite a challenge in the presence of the wind. That is, almost all the time. And when Eole is not blowing too hard, the course conceals so many traps that it does not offer much respite. However, Jack Morris 'design of 1869, lengthened and modernized, had struggled to resist the best players in the world in 2006, the year of Tiger Woods' triumph.
